fashion at my place this week

i don't always look for things or people to photograph
but sometimes they are just asking for it!!
that's how i felt when my dear friend zoe
made her entrance into my house sometime last week
and straight away i got inspired,
as often when around her
and so naturally my camera came out of its bag
and snap, snap, snap, i was away.
my sweet lulu must have sensed the vibe
as she put on her hat
using zoe as her role model
(i'm pretty happy about that)
and wanted her photo to be taken too
'photo, photo maman!'
mais bien sur my love!
we had a great time
the three of us
in our little world of
fashion
and
photography.
don't they look stunning the two of them?
i think so

karen

when in wellington, nz a few weeks ago,
we had breakfast at nikau.
the food was delicious and the cafe is very styly.
we were sitting opposite an old black, very industrial lift,
which added a certain je ne sais quoi to the whole atmosphere.
our friends rob and lou and our family were joined by
nick's brother toby and his girlfriend karen
and we had a lovely breakfast.
karen loves opshopping / thrifting
and her fashion style is very vintage
with a touch of just herself.
she looked gorgeous on that day, as ever,
with some trousers that i envy her very much
and a sweet white with blue polkadots vintage shirt.
her hair had a very retro look that day too.
a great look altogether.
and i couldn't help myself and take a few photos of her.
here what she looked like.
isn't she cool?

zoe in purple and blue dress in garden (zoe's monet dress)

this dress of zoe's is just sublime.
initially, i wasn't sure whether i liked it,
but then the more i photographed zoe wearing it,
and the more it grew on me.
now it is one of my favourite of hers that i have seen so far.
but of course, there are so many more,
and
i can't wait to see them.
we have planned another shoot
for tomorrow morning.
i wonder what zoe is going to treat me with.
can't wait...

thomas and aston at ocean beach

some months ago, we had some bad flooding in our region and as a consequence, our favourite beach, Ocean Beach, ended up covered with drift wood.  one winter afternoon after school, i took this great opportunity to pack the kids into the car, promising them much fun to be had at the beach.  i also packed my camera of course...! we arrived late afternoon, they played and i took photos.  we had a great time altogether.  here is what the boys got up to, and the photos i took.  i hope you will also enjoy the scenery, this beach is truly beautiful.  xx

zoe's pretty flowery mauve dress

we had such a fun shoot that day with zoe when we photographed her mum's pretty white and mauve dress with delicate flowers all over it.  zoe was in fine form and the dress suited her so beautifully.

zoe's dresses

Zoe is my gorgeous friend, who also happens to have the most amazing collection of…well…just about everything.
She was very close to her mum, and the stories about her mum’s life are fascinating.  When she showed me trunk after trunk full of fabulous vintage dresses that all belonged to her mum, most of them from designers, I knew I wanted to document them. .  Hopefully one day, zoe will write a post about her mum.  I am also very lucky that zoe can fit them all, and so naturally she became our project’s model too.
Our goal is to photograph as many of the dresses as possible this year.

dale + stace

I was so lucky to be able to photograph my first wedding back in february this year.
It was my dear friend hannah’s brother dale’s wedding to his most gorgeous bride, stace.
dale + stace.
I had been told how stressful a wedding could be for the photographer too, but I didn’t feel anything like that.  I enjoyed every bit, it was fantastic, fun, exciting.  I’m still on a high.  To be fair, stace and dale were a big part of my feeling so relaxed, they were so beautiful, so obviously in love, and they looked like being in front of a camera was second nature to them.
Thank you so much stace and dale for giving me this opportunity.  I’ll never forget your amazing wedding in the hokianga, north of the north island in stunning new zealand.
